Background
This exercise was implemented with funding from a private citizen based in California, United States of America. Having seen pictures from a similar exercise that was conducted at Nachiwale Primary School in Mulanje district, he was motivated and donated towards the replication of the exercise in 9 (nine) other schools.
As FODEMA, we feel so much indebted to this donor for the support rendered to implement this project. Words would not explain our gratitude. May the good LORD continue blessing him.
The Exercise
FODEMA intended to carry out a task that will both provide education support as well as be in line with its mission. It was thus decided that providing education support to primary school children in remote and almost forgotten areas of the country will help in revitalising the love for school among the children and revamp a hardworking spirit among the children.
Above all, this exercise was also designed to make the children feel and appreciate the value in education, thereby combatting school dropouts as well as early marriages
This project was conducted in the following schools, in Blantyre and Chiradzulu districts: Mombo Primary School, Namipingo Pimary School, Namachete Primary School, Thuchila Primary School, Mtengowambalame Primary School, Malowa Primary School, Chigombe Primary School, Dziwe Primary school.
All these projected goals were successfully achieved. During the exercise, motivational speeches were also delivered to encourage the learners, especially girls, to work hard in school. Though inclusive in impact, the motivational speeches largely focussed on encouraging girls who are frequent victims of school dropout due to early marriages among others.
It was thus envisaged that apart from helping the learners appreciate the value of school, the exercise would also bring hope to these almost forgotten leaners and help them come to the realisation that their lives and their education still mater and that they are loved and appreciated.
It was thrilling to see the joy and elation that was all over the learners as they received their gifts. Such were very satisfying and motivating moments to FODEMA that finally, we are able to add value in the lives of others. FODEMA is now living up to its dream of building better lives.
The prizes were in form of exercise books, pens, pencils, erasers, mathematical instruments, rulers and 1kg sugar packets. These were given to Top 3 positions in all the classes for each of the 8 schools.
A total of 361 learners were served in this project. Details related to how the money was used for this whole project have been appended at the end of this report.
Apart from the awarded learners, over 5000 teachers, learners and parents patronised the exercises in all the 9 (nine) schools.
